The mission of the Mercer Island Youth Soccer Club Select soccer program, known as Mercer Island

Football Club (MIFC), is to provide an opportunity, primarily for Mercer Island youth, to develop and

play at the highest level of soccer within the local community while maintaining balance between school,

family life and other sports. The level of play in Club Select typically falls somewhere between

recreational and premier soccer. MIFC's program is designed for the player seeking a high level of

development and competition, without the greater time and financial commitments of premier soccer, and

to help prepare those who aspire to play high school varsity soccer to compete with premier level players

for positions on those teams. Please download the Club Select Program and Policies.

I am working to establish a program that delivers a positive and developmentally appropriate experience
for the kids on Mercer Island, and a selection process that is open, fair and impartial. The program is grounded on youth player development and curriculum guidelines established by the U.S. Soccer Federation and the U.S. Men's and Women's National Teams. I would welcome any feedback that you have to help further the stated mission and philosophy of the MIFC Club Select Program.

"The primary goal of youth sport programs should be to develop desirable psychological and social

characteristics as well as physical skills and fitness. In short, winning should be viewed as a

consequence of the athlete's physical and psychological development and not the primary focus of athletic

involvement."
